Farewell Tomsk...

Hey Family,
I hope things are going well for you, it is so good to hear from you all you have no idea! The highlight of P-days is when I get to hear from my family and friends, so thank you all for your letters and the prayers.

I guess I should start by telling you the news, I recieved a phone call from President Trejo last Saturday, and I am leaving Tomsk, actually I am leaving today in about 6 hours.

Apparently, I have grown out of my greeny missionary stage,  and am being transfered to Omsk, Russia.

I know, just lost a "T" at the begining of my city, silly Russia.  I have mixed feelings about leaving, I am excited to get to meet new people, to see a new city, and all the traveling that goes along it. For instance, I get to ride on the Transiberian Railroad! Oh yeah!! I am super excited about that! But, I will miss Tomsk.  I've grown to quite like it here, the people here are wonderful... I love them.

The Lord has need of me in Omsk right now, so I will take a 5 hour bus ride to Novo, then hop on a train for 8 hours to Omsk. I am holding out for the big one next time....our mission has the world's longest transfer ( comes with being the biggest mission) it is a 48 hour train ride from Omsk to Ulana Day.  How sick would that be? Well see what happens.

This last week has been super hectic, last minute meetings with investigators, members, packing all my stuff. (Being able to live out of a backpack has sure come in handy when it comes to having to live out of 3 suitcases for 2 years! I can pack up everything I own and be ready to go in under an hour.)

Elder Hansen and I have been reflecting on our last 3 months together and all that we have helped accomplish here in Tomsk. I'm a little sad that I will not be here to see my Investigator get Baptized next week, but man he's ready! I have made sure of that before I left.  He's a good guy, he's ready for the gospel and he wants to do what is right. We have a lot of investigators that have just started to open up to us and are making some great progress, But I guess I will have to leave that for Elder Hansen to finish up with.

After I receieved my call from President, we had a rough lesson with a contact that just well it was bad, all he wanted to do was argue. At the end of the meeting Iwas not the happiest camper, but we got on the bus and were heading up to the branch for English and a song came on the bus radio, which could not help but make me smile. It brought me back to nights with Danny, being with my family and having mom singing it with the whole family in the car, and just a whole bunch of good times.  Gotta love " I gotta feeling " by the Black Eyed Peas LOL. Tender Mercies of the Lord, that is just another proof that he knows us, and he does want us to be happy.  He even knows when a missionary in Siberia is having a rough day and needs a little pick me up.

Sounds like the family reunion was fun. I miss playing at the lake. Unfortunately, everyone here has told us that summer is now over and the weather is only going to get colder from here---thats Siberia. Some of the leaves on the trees have even started to change colors. It kind of stinks but oh well, what was I expecting when I got called to Siberia? Palm trees?

Well family I have to go, I've got a bus to catch! I'll see you again next week! Only in OMSK!

Dad - I've been thinking alot about the whole evolution thing too, and as I've been studying the scriptures, it all just makes sense that things would be the way that they are. It's funny to try and explain to people about the whole concept of it all in Russian. I'm still not where I want to be but I'm getting there with the language. I love ya dad.

Hey family, friends, and those who read this letter!

How are you all doing? I hope Maddie's arm is alright, that sounds like not to much fun getting--- burned.  I am glad the cookies turned out pretty good though!. I will be looking forward to the package :) who know's maybe it will get here by Christmas! jk Elder Frolich and Whitchurch have gotten packages in a month at the quickest. However, Elder Hansen has been waiting for a package that was sent in January and still hasn't gotten here. Gotta love the fact that I'm on the other side of the world!!

Sounds like Dad and Tanner's high adventure will be fun. I told a story in English Club last night about how we went to the Bahamas and found a Tombstone. Made me want to go diving way bad!! Plus going wake boarding for a couple days would be just amazing. 18 months and we'll see what happens right?

Anyway, This week was way good! Elder Hansen and I have just been trying way hard to get the goals we set for this transfer, and we are almost there! We get Transfer calls this Friday so I might be emailing you from another city in Siberia next week..... we'll see what happens.

One of the goals we set was to have2 solid baptismal dates before the end of the transfer. Last Thursday, we had a meeting with one of our Investigator's who is progressing. We invited him to be baptized on the 31st of July! He sat there for a few minutes then looked at us and said, "да я хочу" it was so awesome!! We've met with him a few times since then and are getting him ready for his baptism. The only thing---is that I may not be here for it... depending on what happens Friday... I really want to be here one more transfer, but I know the Lord will put me where ever he knows I will do the most good.

Since then though, another investigator has been reading more and more of the Book of Mormon and it's been way good for him. He's been telling us how much he likes it more and more as he reads! Last night we had a meeting and we invited a member to help us out.  She's is way solid...she loves having us over and feeds us!  Anyway, we met with them both and started to talk about the questions for the baptisimal interview. She asked him if he knew that The Book of Mormon was the word of God, and if he knew Joseph Smith was a prophet. He looked at her and said,  "I can't say that I know for sure but I believe what the Elder's have taught me is true. She then looked at me and said he's not ready for baptism. I looked down at the baptisimal interview questions and read them aloud. Every one of them asked not if they had a testimony, but if they believed. It made me think of my life and how things in my life have built my testimony into what it is today.

This individual has been investigating the Church for a total of about12 weeks, I've been a member of the church for 12 years, and my testimony is still growing. We told her that he was ready and that he needed to nourish the seed in order for it to grow, and this is one of the steps that he needs to take in order to do that. I am so greatful for my parents who helped me learn and grown into what I am today and that I have the opportunity to continue to learn and grow. Everyone needs that opportunity and I am glad I can help them along the path.

I may have a lot to learn here in this life, but I am sure glad that i have the opporunity to do it.

I Feel Good When You Pray

I hope all is well back at home, another week here in Tomsk has flown by! I've been kind of sick (stuffy nose and some sinus stuff) but no worries (mom), nothing a good day of missionary work can't fix! SO I guess you got that email of me dancing and stuff ha, let's just say that I was a little excited to hear some music other than efy or motab lol.

Weather wise, this week has been good it's super humid and muggy due to the rain and the heat, it is Siberia and I love it! There are a ton of people on the street and it make's it way easy to contact and talk to people about our message. We've been getting al ot of new people at English which is good,  as you saw lol yesterday for English we had a little 4th of July party! It was way fun ...we made apple pie, american pancakes (they were just easy to make in mass quantity) and of course ROOTBEER!! It was so fun to watch some peoples reactions. They don't have Rootbeer over here so we had to make it from scratch which was super delicous! When you send me a package anytime soon, buy me some rootbeer extract! :) ha but it was way fun. I dont know why or how, but i got talked into being the MC for the thing, and well it turned out pretty good, we played some COPE games to get to know people, and then we played quite a few other games that where just way fun!

Investigator wise, we've been working hard and trying to get people ready to make the commitment to be baptized! ..Well it's been rough, we've been working with a couple of people that have been slowly progressing, but they've been progressing.  One individual is a man about 65 years old and he's a famous artist in Siberia that wants to find God and has taken a liking to our Church. He's come to Church for the last 5 sundays and meets with us about once a week. He's way cool and very patient with our limited Russian skills. Yesterday we had a meeting with him. and he told us that he will get baptized once he has decided for himself if our church is true or not. That may not sound like much but he loves our church and loves coming to sacrament and reading from the book of mormon! I have no doubt that he will receive his answer and find the truth he seeks.

Another individual,  yesterday we had a miracle! At the end of every meeting, we ask him to pray and he always says no. but yesterday he asked us, "Elders, will you teach me how to pray like you do? I  feel good when you pray and I want to be able to do it." We taught him how to pray and he gave a simple prayer to close our meeting.  I was so happy after that meeting! :) It's amazing to me how prayer works, really. I never realised how important it is, communication with our Heavenly Father is such a great thing. we can feel his love and talk to him about anything, and we will know that he is always there to listen!

A Tie Around My Neck

What is up Family?


How are things back home? Sounds like you're having alot of fun and keeping busy. That's always a good thing. That's how our days have been here, just super busy...Pday comes around and it's like ahhh 7 hours where I can hear from people, and relax a little bit, but by 6:00 I am  wanting to get back to work! It's super weird to be in regular clothes, if i don't have a tie around my neck I kind of feel naked... oh well.

Today is one of the other Elder's birthdays here in Tomsk so Elder Hansen and I built him a cake or something....you'd be proud we did it all from scratch!! Even the frosting was home made! If I do say so myself it is a pretty yummy looking cake ( it is chocolate of course (dad!) any ways so we woke up this morning around 5, due to the fact that the sun was up already and like beaming threw the window.

So we got up dressed and decided it would be a good idea to break into the other Elder's apartment and wake up Elder Whitchurch with a good ole fashioned ninja birthday suprise!! It was way funny we were there before 6:30 and grabbed him out of his bed and it was way fun especially in our ninja(ish) clothes. It brought me back to my days with Dan-theMa kidnapping damsel's in distress and having to fight off disgruntled guys and a moms lol.

We are going to rent bikes today and go do some mountian biking around here. There are some sweet trails we found while doing service and I was just dying to try them out! So we're gunna :) expect... epic pics next week lol I hope or a phone call saying I died.

Elder Hansen and I were contacting Sunday night on our way home and there was no one on the street. So we just walked and talked like we do and all of a sudden there was someone like following us. So we turned and sure enough there was this girl, who was following us...she asked us in Russian, are you missionaries? "Yeah"? we replied "from Utah?" she asked. "I am" I replied...then she started jumping up and down and was smiling way big and called her friend to come over to us.

She explained that she had lived in Pleasant Groove, Utah for the last year with an LDS Family that she had just gotten back to Russia 3 days ago and was totally home sick for Utah.  Crazy how small of a world it is we live in! She said she'd come to English---every time so she could talk to the missionairs and that she wants to meet with us. We'll see what happens.  I told her my last name and I guess she found dad on facebook and stuff. She came to English yesterday and introduced me to one of her friends as Jason Taylor Eborn. Ha, for one, I haven't heard anyone call me anything but Elder for the last six months and for two she new like my whole name ha kind of freaked me out a bit---guess that is the blogs. It was cool too, we're going to try and meet with her family this week. миачы man!

Can you believe that I am 1/4 of the way done with my mission?! Goodness, and I still struggle speaking Russian, бли good thing I've still got another 18 months to figure it out.  Well family, I love you! have a great 4th of July. I think we are going to have a 4th of July event at English class and try to make an apple pie... ha well see what happens.

Mom - thanks for the financial update I will check. I'm needing a new watch due to the fact that I was wrestling a couple of people and my ironman timex one I brought broke... but I won the wrestling :) so I'll be buying just something that will do me until I can get a new one.. maybe a good christmas present.  But yeah, I'll be getting winter gear probably next week or so....I love ya mommy :) thanks for always taking care of me even when I'm on the otherside of the world!!

P.S. Invite the Elders over for dinner and treat them good ha! Help them find people to teach. Everyone could benefit from what we have to share.

Tanner- Hey broha. whats cracking? Things here are good, just doing things we missionaries do and partying it up! Only like we missionaries do! How's life? Haven't heard from ya in a bit...but I guess when I get back you and I? Working at Camp one last hoorah huh? I'm down. You can be one of my high adventure rangers while I'm the High Adventure Director muahaha! Well hermano I love ya. Keep doing what's right.

Through The Savior I Can Do Anything

Sorry the last few weeks have been a little weird with emailing and all, it has just been a hectic couple of weeks. We just got back from yet another trip to Novo for Zone Conference. Five hours on a bus really has starting to give me a crick in the neck I tell ya. It's all good though a couple hours on a bus gives me some time to catch up on some much neededzzz's. But as Danny and I always say, "We'll sleep when we're dead!!"

 Zoneconference was great we heard some stuff that really will help me with my work here in Tomsk and also, gave me a bigger resolve to do better. It's funny sometimes you think you are giving all you have and then you get a little revival of energy and you realize that you want to give even more! We watched this slide show called Reflections of Christ, it was so powerful. You have the book Mom, but they did a new version called AnotherTestament and man, I cried like a baby lol.

I really am so grateful for my Savior, I know that he really did suffer for me personally and I know that through him I can do anything. He gives me strength that I didn't know I had, and I can really feel his help in the work that I am trying to do here. The people here in Russia, really need to know what he has done for them and that the Plan has been set and the Power to do the things he has asked us to do is again on the earth. We have a meeting with a contact tonight and I am very excited to give him the chance to find out for himself through the Book of Mormon. 

As for Investigators and people that we've been working with we are just trying to help people feel the spirit and want to do better. We've been working with a individual who has been investigating the Church for nearly 16 years and knows the scriptures better than we do! However, has never accepted a baptismal commitment, we jokingly call him the most active nonmember in the world! He comes to everything but hasn't accepted our invitation to be baptized. Aftercoming home from the Temple and after this Zone Conference I have some new ideas about how to help him, and I am feeling really good about it.

We've also been working with a man, who is an older man probably 65-70 and he is an artist. Like a way good artist he is famous in Russia and it's really a great opportunity to teach him.  Then comesAlexey.  I think tonight we're going to talk to him about baptism so ha yeah, keep them in your prayers, they need some help (I mean look at the missionary they've got working with them ha they will deffinetly need some help!)

Well that's about it for my week.  I guess, I will answer mom's (funny mom).

Ø The new couple from Eagle, are they the new business couple? Replacing theSimmons?yeah the Mckally's are the new business couple and they are way cool.
Ø Did you tell them that you Love Bishop Edwards? Did they know theMoorehouses?of course! we talk about it almost everytime im in Novo.
Ø The Trip to Finland: Did you have any issues?No issue's in Finland ha almost missed our flight but i ran and stopped theflight, i said wait!!! im a missionary and they waited lol jk. but all wasgood we made it alright
Ø Did the Finland missionaries pick you up? If so, did you see Elder Bryant(Uncle Stan’s Nephew) by chance?nope, we were compeltely on our own didn't see anyone or missionaries..maybe next timeØ Where did you stay in Finland?we stayed at the Temple Hostel it was legit
Ø Do you need to buy a new suit yet?I  actually bought a new suit yesterday ha kak raz! . My otherones aren't doing so hot dang Mr Mac. So this one is a dark grey and looks really good I like it alot.
Ø Have you purchased your winter wear yet?not yet, but im going to next month while they are all on sale. so dont besupprised if there is not a lot of money on my account ha gotta buy me someboots, coat, shapka and gloves so itll be a little pricey... but better thancoming home with frost bite right :)
Ø Who cuts your hair? we go to the salon by our house. ha mullets are so in here (oigh)
Ø Where do you email us from?we use a net cafe in the center of the city to email home, it's like 100rubles for an hour so yeah.
Ø Did you get a new Comp?nope! still green and greener here in tomsk!

Elder  Danny- Dude ha I got to go to the Temple and buy some Finish Chocolate it was legit. I have to go there every 3 months for a new Visa! How crazy ist hat. It was fun though. So your investigator with a B-day dropped you? Bummer man. I know how that feels the work has been pretty rough here some mornings it's hard just to get out of bed but we need to remember that Christ suffered for all that they could have the chance to besaved, and we've gotta make sure they get that chance. Helping Others Feel Happiness

Dearest Family....
Sounds like you've had a great family home evening! I do miss having airsoft fights with my brother and family... Um...Elder Hansen and I bought airsoft guns the other week and we have our own little battles. It's pretty fun but it's just not the same as having a big gun and alot of people to shoot.

Things here are going well, pretty much the same as always, missionary work is exactly what it's name intends, work, work and more work!  Trust me, it is for sure is work, especially here. When my head hits the pillow every night I am totally zonked.  It is a good thing though. The only bad thing is when I wake up in the morning and realize "crap, I have to take yet another freezing cold shower lol".

We talked to one of the members and he told us that when the water gets turned off Russians usually go on vacation. Even Russians don't like cold showers!! Elder Hansen had enough of it this morning and woke up early and boiled water in our little tea pot to get enough water for a bath. It was pretty funny.

Also, after mom told me about her Blini it seems that I have had blini almost every other day. It's just so easy to make and so good! mmm I do love me some Blini! Put some farsh and some melty cheese with some smetana and you've got yourself a delicous blin! :) I will have to make Blini for you when I get back. They are also very good with nutella.  I think I'll have one after i get done with this email actually.

We've found a new investigator, he came to English and then showed up to Church and so we invited him to a couple family home evenings on Monday and he just followed us around pretty much all night.  It was pretty cool he wants to do like all the activities that we do as a Church so we'll see what happens we gave him a Book of Mormon and invited him to find out for him self if it is true. Speaking of which how has all you're reading been going? I hope your books of aren't just sitting in the living room but, have actually been opened.

We get transfer calls this Friday so I find out if I'm going to be here in Tomsk one more transfer or not. I hope I get to stay here a little longer I love Tomsk! It's a great city. Although, I will be moving whether I want to or not next week. The ZL's want our apartment and it kind of is the Zone Leader apartment so we are going to switch them apartments that should be fun. Next week I will be in Novo for a conference with Elder Richard G. Scott which will be very cool! I am very excited for this opportunity to hear from an Apostle. After that, I go and get my visa renewed, which means I am going to Finland! I don't know if I wiill be able to email you next week due to all that but I hope it all works.. and I can tell you all about it.

Yesterday after English, I was talking to a man named Roman and he asked how I could give up 2 years to come here and do this thing called a Mission, he asked does it make you happy? Which made me really reflect on what these last 5 months have been like and how I am feeling. I told him that, having the knowledge that I can be with the ones I love forever gives me all the happiness I need and I want to help other's feel that happiness. It's true, I miss you all so much, but I really do hope that I can just help someone here in Russia have the happiness that can be theirs through the gospel. I love you all! I gotta get back to work!

Years at BSA Camp Have Paid Off

Hello family and who ever else reads this! :)
So we were getting ready to go to go do email this morning and the Zl's came over to drop off some cardboard and stuff at our apartment.  We are going to make a fort for p-day! (bet ya can't guess who came up with that idea, hee hee).

Well, we all got in the elevator and were heading down the lift---we heard the elevator grind to a hault and were stuck in the elevator. Elder Hansen tried to open the rest of the door but it was no use. We were stuck between the 3 and 4th floor of our building. We stayed there for about 30 minutes until someone came and fixed the lift. Don't worry I'll send a picture! This week has been great though really. We've been working hard and having fun. I know I say that a lot but it's the only way to say it if you're not working hard it's hard to have fun!

The hot water in our apartment is still off and let me tell ya it's not like we don't just have hot water in Russia there are only 2 temperatures of water--boiling lava hot, or ice cold. And without the boiling lava hot we are only left with the cold. I use to enjoy taking a shower after working out in the morning. But now it is more of a chore :( one would think that after 2 weeks of this---you'd be use to it but nope every morning you just want to cry due to the freezing cold that is hitting your body! 

So this week we've had some fun adventures we had a picnic with the members of the branch here down on the bank of the river. Very Cold. So Elder Hansen and I wore our shapki! It was awesome everyone thought we were just insane (you are only suppose to wear them when it's like -40 but we decided it would be a good day for them). We ate some weird hot dog things that I am pretty sure were made out of horse meat or something.

OH! On that note, guess what? I am turning in to quite the little Chef.  I can cook up a delicous masterpieces! It's been fun---all of those years at camp really have come in handy out here!

We've been trying to find new people to teach so that we can keep teaching people and we have had some success with that. We met this old man, who lives really close to the branch building, he's so cool. He's an artist! He has lots of really cool works that are all over the world. He's done works for all sorts of church's around the world and became interested with religion and wants to know about what we believe so it should be very interesting to see what happens with him.

Also with missionary work, there are some ever famous experiences of contacting and tracting! Yesterday, we went out and talked with people on the street which was super cool. (Minus the fact that we were completely rejected by everyone). It kind of made me sad, because these people have the opportunity to have the best thing in the world for free and yet they don't want to take it. This one guy actually had the Book of Mormon in his hand and then basically threw it back at us and ran inside his shop/hut/thing. Potential-- is something I see in all of these people and I want so bad for them to achieve the potential they can! I just need to keep going. Someone's waiting and ready for this. I just gotta find them!

Mom and Dad - Dad thats way cool about your Vigil honor. Thank you for the email about it. It made me smile. Mom sounds like things are busy at home, work, and with your stake calling! You're awesome, and can handle it all so well.  Send all the kids my love. I miss them like crazy, especially my brother let him know I love him.  Tanner, the Church is True, I know this will all my heart.

Knowing What Your Suppose To Do

Here's the letter I sent last week that you didn't get.  Another week here in GOOD Ol' Siberia! Gotta love it :) I am so happy to be here---you have no idea, even if it is May, and it still snows! It just comes with getting called to the biggest, coldest, hardest mission there is I guess!

We had an interesting week but we worked hard and had some fun that for sure. Last Friday was the bomb, we worked so hard and got a participated in a ton of meetings. We met with a group of investigators as well as less active members. It was great I felt like I was really doing missionary work and earning my name tag!

Then Saturday came, and everything went down hill... we couldn't get a meeting set up to save our lives, also Elder Hansen and Elder Whittchurch were kind of sick so they weren't all that gung ho about what I wanted to do. We went and found some members and then went to sports night which was super fun!

It was probably the only thing that held Saturday together from being a horrible day. We met a whole bunch of members, as well investigators and people from English who came out and we played ULTIMATE FRISBEE! (speaking of which if you could send me one of those as well as an american football, and pump I would greatly appreciate it!) It was so much fun running around and playing around. I've missed playing around like that. Memories of Danny and I playing glow in the dark Frisbee came back and I got a little home sick. I wanted to have everyone else here with me playing and having fun.

I really missed my family too.

We had a good Sunday too. We met with an less active member who really liked cars.  I asked him if he liked cars. but you see the word cars and the word men are very similar and I actually asked him if he liked men ha. That was interesting he gave me this look like what did you just ask me?! I quickly corrected my error by pointing at the pictures of the cars and said like those? Luckily, he laughed and called me an American---that was a close one.

We've had a few meetings where people decided to be less kind, and totally ditch us too.. that was a bit of a bummer. One such meeting was suppose to happen yesterday and we went to meet him at his dad's work and he wasn't there but his dad was and he was with a bunch of his buddies gambling and doing all sorts of things that anyone would definetly not want to have the missonaries see you do. He got mad at us and started yelling. Elder Hansen got upset and wouldn't say anything in Russian so I quickly apologized for disturbing him and we left. It's kind of a sad thing when you see people who really do know what they are suppose to do and chose to not follow it.  Everyone has their agency to choose either liberty and life, or captivity in death like it says in 2 Nephi 2:27.

I just wish I could help people choose to the good one! I guess that is why I am here and what I need to do though, is to let people know their options and allow them to make their own decisions! Like dad said, you can lead a horse to water but you cant make him drink.

Mom & Dad - Hey Parents! Sounds like you've had quite the week. I think when I get home in a couple years I want to work at camp for the summer and live in a hammock doing high adventure for one last summer before I have to grow up. But we'll see. I've had dreams about it out here, but everyone speaks Russian in them for some reason. I am doing good, running every morning, and working hard.

Everyone here has commented that it seems like I don't stop. The members say all I've done since I got to Tomsk is work. I tell them the same thing I use to tell you when you were concerned I was doing too much. "I can sleep when I am dead"! I love you, thanks for your support. If you could send me some efy cd's that would be nice and we can have hymns and efy music! Also, I sent some more pictures I hope it worked.

SHALOM FAMILY!! Wow, it was so good to hear from you on Sunday! I have missed you all like crazy and it was good hearing from you all.

I hope you had a wonderful Mothers Day (Mom, Gramm, Grandma Iris, All my lovely Aunts).

Here in Tomsk, we took a taxi to church and then had to come straight home so we wouldn't run into trouble (it was Victory Day in Russisa).  My talk went well, I spoke on enduring to the end and I used the example of running a race with some scriptures (ha it was understandable...ish... ha) but people afterwards came and told me how I have improved so much since I got here. So either I am getting better or people are just too nice to me! So we got home after that and made some food, and then watched mission approved movies since we were to stay in the apartment all day.  We watched Miracle and The Ten Commandments it was an interesting night, Elder Hansen and I both had a good time and laughed way hard.

Anyway, what else here is new? hmm oh I don't remember if I told you that Elder Scott from the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles is coming to Novo in June and we get to go and see him which will be cool.  In addition, the other day I got a call from our ZL's and apparently it has gotten down the line that Elder Hansen and I have been teaching a nuclear physicist.   It has gotten so far down the line in fact that Elder Richard G. Scott would like to have a meeting with him when he comes.  Wow! I can't wait for our friend to return from his buisness trip and to give him the news!

Like I mentioned in our call, we had zone conference this week in Novo with Barnaul, Novo, and Tomsk missionaries ..so we had like 30 missionaries there it was really good. We talked about finding new people to teach and how that has been the weakness for our mission and how to work on it. It was great a big boost of energy ...zone conference helps carry you through the next little bit.  I  got all excited to go and talk to people ---it was fun. However, the bus ride home how ever was the worst experience ever... I sat there in my chair for nearly 5 hours trying to hold back vomit---I was sick..  I told my story of how I threw up on Mikelle Kap (I did it like 3 times over the years... poor Mikelle) it was a good time minus the whole sick part. The roads here in Russia are bumpy and the people drive super fast and it's basically like a roller coaster.

Well Mom, my black suit is falling apart dang Mr Mac. I'm just hoping I can make it to hump day without having to go to only one suit. But it's getting warm enough to go with only slacks! It's been wonderful. It's weird one day it'll be like 28 degree's and the next like -10! I guess that's just Siberia in May for ya.

SO we have a member here in Tomsk who has a wife and a little boy, his wife is not a member and was kind of not favorable regarding the Church, but she finally agreed to meet with us. We had a wonderful meeting with them and I could just see them being a strong family within the Church---there was nothing I wanted more than that. We taught as best as we could and let the Lord do the rest, I'm pretty sure she felt the Spirit I know I could. It was a great meeting and we have another with them tomorrow and I am very excited! I really hope that we can help her to understand how important this is and how much it will strengthen their family. I just think of our family and how we are.... and I just want them to be able to have what we have. Goodness I love being a missionary!  I've only got like 19 more months to wear this badge..it has seemed so long, yet so short at the same time.

Green and Greener | Elder Hansen From Missouri

Hello Family of mine! So guess what! You get to call me this weekend! Oh Yeah! I am looking forward to hearing from you. You should have received an email from President Trejo regarding it and all.

This week has been super busy, with transfers and all.  I got a new companion.. Elder Hansen on Thursday. He's been in Omsk for his whole mission and he's here with me know!  He's awesome, we are for sure, green and greener but we can get through lessons and teach people what we are here to teach.

It's fun we've had some good meetings on the street and having fun doing it! Elder Hansen is from Missouri, he grew up on a dairy farm and get this, he loves to run! I get to run! So yes, we have started running to the trainstation every morning. It's been awesome. The weather here is warming up and the snow is almost gone. All the ice on the river just disappeared one day (LOL).

I've been doing great and having fun---the language is coming.  I'll tell you more about the week when you call SUNDAY (well Saturday for you) @ 7:00 AM! I will let you do the conversion on the time thing, and will be waiting by the phone! I can't wait to talk with you.

We've had to reschedule some baptismal dates due to unforseen circumstances.  We've talked to a man this week (on the street) and when we asked him if he was interested he said, "life sucks right now and it seems like you guys are pretty happy lets see what happens..." We willl see,  I love being a missionary, I love doing what I'm doing, and wearing this Name Badge. I love you all, I cant wait to hear from you soon!

Mom and Dad - 87ish weeks is not that long I'd better keep working at this thing! I can't wait for you to meet Elder Lambson he's a stud! Tell him thank you for me!

Tanner - I'll get to "tell you" Happy Birthday before your birthday but, Happy Birthday! I remember turning 17 and feeling all grown up then I get to Russia and realize ah.... I want my Mommy!  You brother---are a stud.  I love you brother keep doing what youre doing. I'm proud of you. Couldn't ask for a better brother!

JT's P-Day

Yesterday, this mom was pretty moppy.  I felt horrible, that JT had checked in earlier and may have not got my email.  Ask Jason, Tuesday night---when I saw how early he emailed I seriously cried at the thought he thought I didn't write. 

Then, I read his letter and found one of the missionaries he was with--- blog.  Jason found some pictures of JT!  Here is JT on P-day.  He is looking happy.

Elder Lambson Goes Home

It is I,  ...once again from the amazing country that is Russia!

So you're probably wondering whats going on so here let me tell ya! :)

Elder Eborn and Elder Lambson

This week we had some sweet meetings and taught the gospel, like we missionaries do! This was Elder Lambson's very last week here in Russia, as I am typing he is on a plane back home.  If you want to get a hold of him which probably would be a good idea seeing as how he has my memory card with a bunch of sick (sick=cool) pictures on it and some other stuff that will remain secret until you receive it! It was sad to see him go and a little weird, not gunna lie. He had just finished his mission and I feel like I still  a long way to go.. but that's good because I will only be able to do this once and I wanna live it up!

We had this really cool meeting with an less active member who was a professional jazz pianst. Elder Lambson loves to play the piano and is amazing at it so they had like a "jam session" and the whole family came in and rocked out ha. I should have learned how to play the piano, mom why didn't you make me? Oh well, at the end of the meeting we asked if we could play a Hymn and we all sing together. It was so cool, the Spirit entered the room as we sang together and we then shared a spiritual thought on music and the gospel. The Father, said that he would be seeing me at church this Sunday! It was so cool. It's amazing how much music can enter our hearts and allow us to feel the spirit. Also, meeting with our nuclear physist who is awesome and wants to get baptized...it's been great missionary work here in Tomsk. We are working hard to find those who are ready to hear the gospel.

Yesterday, I went with Elder Froelich  http://tylerfroelich.wordpress.com/ and Elder Brightwell out to this city called Cloochy, it's like a little farm town about an hour and half outside of Tomsk. We took a bus and it dropped us off on the side of the road. There was a sign that just said Cloochy and an arrow pointing down a long road. So we set off walking and about an hour later we were at the house of an awesome family who they had been working with we shared a spiritual thought and headed off back down the road! It was cool I'll send some pictures when I figure out how.. Apparently, I can send them via email but I don't have a card reader/cameracord so we'll figure that out.

Today, and hopefully next week you'll have pictures from me and also from Elder Lambson. Oh you probably want to know about this next transfer, new comp and such so here ya go! Last friday I got a call from President Trejo. He told us that Elder Lambson was going home, and that I would be staying in Tomsk, and that my new companion would be Elder Hanson. I haven't met him yet he's on a train from Omsk to Novo right now and then he'll be on his way to Tomsk tomorrow. He has been out 2 transfers more than I, We will be the Green and Greener Companionship! It will be an adventure! So look forward to some interesting stories this next 6 weeks!

I love you all, I hope everything is well and you're having fun! The church is true, The Book of Mormon is the word of God and I know we have a prophet. I can't put it any better than what was said by Bill S. Preston and Theodore Logan, "BE excellent to each other".

Grandma & Grandpa- Thanks For the Email! I can testify to the member's in missionary work thing! It makes all the difference! We try to get members in all of our meetings and we really need them for the retention of new members, if you have the opportunity to help them out, take it! Invite them over with there investigators for dinner or something because it really does help. Here in Tomsk, we have a great Branch and they try to help as much as they can. Well I love you, have a great week!

A Challenge For You| Family & Friends

So this week was another great week. Teaching has been great, we've been busy with investigators, less actives, and just the craziness that is Russia!

One of our investigators has dropped off the face of the earth. We have no idea where he went so if you see him let me know. We've been getting more and more people at church each week which is really cool until they ask me something I have no idea how to answer because I don't understand what they say.. but its all good Elder Lambson usually jumps in when I get the "big deer in the headlights" look on my face.

This week was my first Zone Conference! We had President and Sister Trejo come with the AP's and we had a great conference. It was like a spiritual recharge.

 I hope you all don't mind. But, I am going to issue a challenge to you all (meaning all my family and those who read this email) As a missionary we often give commitments/challenges, and by often I mean everytime we talk to someone. This weekend, at Zone Conference I felt really impressed that I should do this...family/friends so I'm giving you all a challenge which will not only be for me, but, will help the people here in Russia as well.

 Often times the people here hear us as missionaries say "I know the Book of Mormon is true" or something like that and yeah it is but, sometimes I think that the fact that this is what I do everyday, all day long, makes them have a harder time believing me and feel what I am saying.

So :) where ever you are in your reading of The Book of Mormon, whether it's sitting there collecting dust or your are nearly through with reading it. I would GREATLY appreciate it if you finish it and do what it says in Moroni 10:3-5 and ask in prayer if it is true. This means if you haven't picked up a BOM in a while you'd better start reading! Some times I don't think we realise what we have. I sure didn't before I got here.  I mean, even in the MTC I didn't under stand how important it is. The Book of Mormon really will bring a man closer to God by reading and abiding by its guidance, it was written for us in our day, and most importantly it is the keystone of our religion. If the Book of Mormon isn't true, then Joseph Smith wasn't really a prophet, and I am in the middle of Siberia wasting my time. BUT, I promise you that is not the case!

I have read The Book of Mormon and I have done as instructed by a Prophet and I have asked and I KNOW it is true.  Why else would I be doing what I'm doing?! Things would be much easier at home in Utah, going to school, working, and hanging out with Amber. But I know, that this book is true. I want everyone here in Siberia to have the opportunity to read and to know for themselves. That's why I am here.

So my challenge/commitment it to all of you is this; Will you read The Book of Mormon from cover to cover, and then pray to know if it's true? If yes, then I will be expecting some emails/letters/whatever form of communication you can think of to get it to me about your experience so that I can honestly share it with the people of Russia. So that it's not just Some weird American in a suit and tie telling them this but many people who have gained a testimony of the truth for themselves. I hope that you all will except this challenge. Family--I especially feel impressed we need to read the Book of Mormon more faithfully.


Alright well on to some adventures I've had this week!
So Elder Lambson and I were walking home down the river that use to be the street to our apartment (Russia doesn't have drains so all the water just sits in the street untill it evaporates) and there's a lot of water. So Elder Lambson said "Hey, lets go this way home" and so I followed him. We came to a part where there was what looked like a shallow puddle ( never ever think it's a shallow Puddle in Russia) so I took a step on to what looked like a solid piece of ice. Well, it wasn't solid, it was more of an iceberg. I stepped on it and down it went. And so did I! I was calf deep in a puddle of freezing ice water. I freaked out and tried to jump to the next ice block which was just like the other one and down I went. When I finally found a solid patch of ice it was like I was in Raiders of the Lost Ark trying to get across this lake! It was crazy, I also met a drunk guy who liked me alot :). There are more stories but I don't have time to tell them you'll have to wait a few years to hear the some of them!

Sara Day - Thanks for the email finally things are going good for me I'm working hard and I'm in Siberia! ha you can write me when ever you want or email me here but just know letters will take about 6 weeks for me to read so yeah! have fun, play hard and don't get into to much trouble! :)

Doing Good | It's What We Do

So things here are good I've had a great week! I only have one card to play in this game they call the mission so I play it often. Work. I am loving it! We had another kick butt week last week teaching over 20 lessons and getting 2 baptisimal dates! and as of yesterday we actually got 1 more! So May 8th there will be a baptismal service at the Tomsk Branch building.  I am stoked. It will be such a neat experience. It is such an amazing thing to be able to help people learn about the gospel of Jesus Christ and see them realize that this is what they need in their life. It's what we all need. One individual getting baptized told us that on our first meeting he had the option to ditch out on us and go see a concert that wasn't very good concert. He said that he felt like what he needed in his life was what we had to offer. Another one we've been working with told us that everything we had been teaching just makes sense ( he is acutally an academic). What dad said was very true though, "you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink it" but when they do it sure does feel good!

This week thus far has been good to we've got a lot of stuff planned that will keep us busy. I find myself often using what I've learned from you (my parents) about organization and about keeping a clean house LOL. It's just much easier to leave home when you don't have to worry about coming home to it dirty!

Conference was awesome. We got to watch it on Saturday and Sunday via 15 inch monitor in the family history library of the branch building. 6 missionaries, and one investigator crowded around a little computer screen and we still felt the spirit like crazy! Can I just say how cool Prez Monson is?! In the MTC we had a saying, "Hot Dog! We got a Prophet!"  It's true our Prophet really is called of God. In a meeting after a session with an investigator. He told us how impressed he was with our prophet and what he said. (this investigator now has a Baptismal date). Conference was really amazing needless to say. But you all saw it 2 weeks ago so yeah.

If I haven't told you yet there are pigeons everywhere here! And I have made it a goal to pull a "Ryan Smith". I've got 2 years and I think this will be a possiblity!

Now mom for your questions... ·

• What is the place like that you are living in? Clean/Safe? We live in an apartment in Southern Tomsk on the 7th floor. It's one of the nicest apartments in the mission.·
• Do you have enough warm bedding? I am plenty warm. The buildings are often SUPER HOT. And the 0 to -10 weather feels amazing after a night of sweating.·
• Do you have a washer/dryer? How are you cleaning your clothes? We have a washing machine that takes about an hour and a half to wash a load of clothes and then we hang them in our apartment to dry them. Apartments are tiny and there is no room for dryers so they don't have them.·
• What is your daily schedule? Daily schedule is as such. 630 - 700: wake up and work out, I can't run(which is killing me) so I do push ups and situps and stuff. 700-800 showers and breakfast 8-9 personal study where i read my scriptures and study the gospel. It's the da bomb. 9-10 Companion study. Elder Lambson and I come together and share what we learned in personal and plan out what were going to teach. 10-11 Language study. I learn and practice what I need to know in order to teach our lesson in Russian. I also get an extra hour a day for language study for the 1st 2 months here in Russia but we hardly ever do it we're to busy. So from 11-9 we go out and do missionary work! We teach lessons to investigators and members. Contact and go about doing good! It's what we do. From 9-10 we plan out our next day make phone calls to our investigators and those we want to meet with then get ready for bed( which is much needed) then we're in bed by 1030 resting for another day of work!And thats my day. ·
• Did you buy new boots? I decided to be tough and just go without for the time being
• Do you have everything you need? I'm fine mom :)
• Can you email us pictures? We'll figure something out. I'm sending a cd home with Elder Lambson when he leaves on the 28th so you'll get some soon. Email here is weird so I don't how to get you pictures yet.·
• Have you had any encounters with the Government with paperwork etc? How does it go?·Nope but I'm pretty sure I met some mafia guys.
• What is a good memory you have of Uncle Boone? I remember when Uncle Boone came and picked us up in Rawlins, Wyoming ...just remember how happy I was that he brought us back.

We heard quite a few talks from him while we were in the MTC and he knows how to lay it on thick! I love it. I hope you are having a good time and enjoying Spring. It'll get here sooner or later. I've been told that in the summer the sun comes up at about 4 in the morning and goes down around 1230-1 oclock! I'm not in Kansas any more! I love you Thanks for the Email

I Maybe a Greenie

So this week was much better so you all know. I apologize for the "negative nancy" that wrote you last week, Elder JT's back and we're good to go! We've been working hard here in Tomsk, Elder Lambson and I got every standard except for one last week. It was good this week we've made some goals that are going to push us big time and make us work REALLY hard. I told Elder Lambson, "I maybe a greenie, and I may not know the language very well, but I do know how to work, and thats what I'll do!" It's a good feeling when you come home from a long day of meeting with people and you take off the tie and lay down just exhausted. Elder Lambson said, thats when you know youre doing something right. There's a quote from someone (idk who) it is but it says, "if working hard isn't skill, then it is a great substitute.." so that's what were doing! Working hard and hoping things come together.

We've been meeting with investigators and some less active members most of which came to church on Sunday with us--which was really cool.

Easter in Russia is the bomb! You walk around the street and people say Translated, " Jesus is Risen!" and in reply you say, " Its True" it's a great way to talk to someone about the gospel. I carry a Book of Mormon around with me all the time and on marshutki people ask "what is that book?" or something and it is a great way to contact. Easter is great time to talk about the Book of Mormon, after all, it is another Testiment of Jesus Christ. People would say to us "Jesus was Risen!" and we would answer "Yes! and he came to the Nephites!" :) We had some good discussions about it and got some people who were interested in the Book of Mormon, we were like, "I guess we could give you a free copy... and perhaps ETERNAL SALVATION!! we had some fun."

A Hard But Good Week

So this week has been good but VERY hard. I've come to realise how hard these next two years are actually going to be. I've had kind of a knot in my stomach and been really discouraged this week.

I've had a hard time understanding what the people are saying, and what is said ..... I've been missing home-- it's been tough. It was good to finally get emails and to hear from home :) so thank you all ...keep them coming please.

They really do help.

There was a meeting we had with one of the members were working with who was inactive when we got here but is starting to come back to church... when we went to his apartment we ran into some Jehova Witnesses. That was interesting! They gave us probably the meanest look I've ever gotten since I've been in Russia, all I could do was smile. We got to the top of the stairs and Roman, was standing in his door talking to them and he said something like"...no these are the Elders are from the Church of Jesus Christ".

It was great, we then went in and talked to him he had some questions and Elder Lambson and he spoke for about 45 minutes--straight and with in 3 minutes I was lost. I try to listen to conversations as much as possible to pick up the words that I know and even when I have no idea whats going on I try to pay attention. But during that meeting it was gone, my concentration was shot, and I felt like I was falling asleep.
 :( it was SO disappointing.

I felt so bad, in reality I almost just wanted to cry and go home. I asked myself, "JT what the heck are you even doing here? You have no idea how to speak Russian and your never going to understand anything." I was so hopless the rest of that day and through the next couple days, I was kind of moping around and being really a big baby LOL. I felt bad for Elder Lambson having to be my Companion.. then and having to put up with me.

But I continued to do my studies and such and well, I finished the Book of Mormon again and I knelt down and prayed and I asked Heavenly Father what the heck I was doing and if this book really was true and instead of the buring feeling of love I have recieved before it was more like, " DUH, you stupid-fish why are you asking me this? You know why youre here, so quite moping around and get to work."

Since then, things have been alot better I've been trying my best to work hard and to accomplish my purpose here.  It's really been improving my spirits. We found a new investigator (we actually have several now) named Oleg, He's a scientist here in Tomsk and he's way smart and he speaks perfect english (score fore me! ha) so we've been teaching him in English and he has been SO excited about the gospel. Our first meeting was kind of get to know him and answer some questions he had about the church and stuff. He said that he's read about the church online and the life style the people of our church have is exactlly what he wants for his family. The next meeting we talked about the Fall--the need for Jesus Christ our Savior and redeemer. We explained to him that all can be made right through Chirst if we follow his conditions. He was bitting at the bit and nearly jumped out of his chair and asked, "What are these conditons?!"It was great I really think that given a little time he will come into the church.

Thats basically been my week in Tomsk! I hope you all have a happy Easter and enjoy Conference. I don't get to watch for another week when it arrives here in Russia! I love you all!

Dad- Thats so cool about camp! I've been actually thinking about it and I might go up to Camp Hunt after I get home for the summer.  Kind of depends on what happens with a certain girl ;) who is probably already married... but yeah. That sounds sweet, it'd be so fun to go up and be the water front director or something.

Mom- Don't worry I am fine..  My black jacket has been just perfect and I'll wait until summer sales to by my nice jacket. Elder Lambson is the bomb he's taking care of me and all is well. I have no idea how to speak Russian lol.  As for the Pepto..its all good.  I am healthy and well.   Thats way cool about your new calling! I'm sure that they knew a good thing when they saw it! You'll do awesome :)
